The Japan Radio Air Navigation Systems Association (JRANSA) is a general incorporated foundation whose main business is the research and development on radio air navigation systems. Radio Air navigation systems encompass such communication systems as VHF/UHF and HF radio, such navigation systems as VHF Omni-Directional Range and Distance Measuring Equipment (VOR/DME) and Instrument Landing System (ILS) and such surveillance systems as airport surveillance radar (ASR) and air route surveillance radar (ARSR). It also encompasses satellite navigation systems utilizing such geostationary and orbiting satellites as Global Positioning System (GPS) and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS)
These systems are researched, developed, and standardized by international organizations such as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). JRANSA actively participates in these international activities, contributing to the advancement of cutting-edge technologies. Based on these global standards and innovations, JRANSA provides the best solutions to various challenges in aircraft operations and air traffic control (ATC) in Japan.
Furthermore, JRANSA also actively participates in international technical cooperation from initial surveys to large-scale infrastructure development overseas, particularly in the field of the airport development and maintenance and ATC system development and maintenance ensuring the sustainability.
